March 4 – Stained Glass Demo

Today we discussed the show on March 23rd, distributed posters, circulated sign up sheets, and talked about a few business items and then looked at a couple show and share items.

Terri finished her dolphin for Seguro y Sana, with some starfish done in papier mache; Ray finished her boot (these were pre-printed canvases in black that we were given to embellish, another project for Seguro y Sana) which turned out great; and finally, Kimmer had a Yaqui Indian Zentangle she has been working on. Awesome work ladies!

Then Lisa did a brief Stained Glass Demo. She started with talking a bit about how she plans out a project and trying to ensure she’s using composition rules for the more “art” or “painting-like” pieces, like the Mermaid and Tetakawi piece behind her. Then went on to show the steps: first there’s choosing your subject, creating your cartoon for a larger piece and templates for smaller pieces like the demo Monstera, then tracing and cutting, grinding, foiling and soldering.

Several of our group have worked with glass for mosaics and others have glass but hadn’t done anything with it because they didn’t know where to start, so hopefully this brief demo will have started them on a path of destruction….sorry, I should say creativity!

Then we all sat down and were planning on doing some doodling with Zentangle, but things just kind of disentegrated and we wrapped up by 11:00 in time for the Huichol Indian family to come in to set up for their three-day sale of their beaded products.

Next week Cindy Nett is going to show us something cool!
