March 24, 2025 – Watercolor with Terri

Sosomeone left the door open and 16 or 18 people attended the watercolor workshop!  It was wonderful to see you all.

After addressing the likes, dislikes, challenges and specific questions each has about the medium; Terri chose the approach of  lessons learned through study and personal experience, in an effort to shortcut you into right where you want to be.  We had a wonderful time, you were all so interested and interesting!  A show and tell of contrasting styles with an assist from Lynn with her lovely and delicate florals.  We’d like to thank Lynn also for contributing many materials to share with the group.  Stunning revelation:  Brenda and Kimmer who are “watercolor resistive”……………..produced beautiful works that surprised them.  Great job, all.  Thank you so much.

This Monday, we can do a bit of a watercolor follow up, if you’d like or have any questions.  Terri bring a w/c on canvas.  Bring yours if you worked on them and any other work to share.

This is the last meeting of the 2024/25 Season.  Ideas for “summer homework” are needed; be prepared to brainstorm.

Suggestions for next season by members include:  Interactive contact with guests during the art shows such as asking what they enjoyed most, if they would be willing to provide their email address where we could send a copy of the artist’s card and representation of their work. (i have more thoughts on this subject)

Conduct more learning formats for example, perspective, shading, light.  Perhaps to make use of you tube and dvd.

Again, thank you all for supporting and/or volunteering to conduct workshops, for your membership, and for continuing to support Brenda, Lisa and I as we try to maintain La Liga de Arte in the spirit in which it began many years ago.  Our thanks to those founding members for passing on a wonderful legacy.

Lisa kind of got busy painting and forgot to take many photos…but here are a few:

All those chairs were filled during the session! The only photo I got of a finished or near finished watercolor was of Kimmer’s Roseate Spoonbill, and she claimed she did not like watercolors! Brenda’s turned out well also, but forgot to get a photo, was too busy playing!

The dolphin was painted by Kathryn a new member this year. These dolphins support the Seguro y Sana project that is headed up by our own Lynn! Visit their website to learn more: https://seguroysano.org/about/dolphins-for-hope/ for the dolphin project, and https://seguroysano.org/ to learn about the mandate and goals of this worthy cause!

The two stained glass pieces are to complement the Kokopelli door Lisa did a few weeks ago. They’ll be installed soon.

Doug has also been playing with adding texture to his pieces. Click the photo to get a full view of the three that he brought. He used a mix of baking soda, white glue and white acrylic paint then applied to the canvas. The framed piece the rocks were done with this technique, although difficult to see through the glass. Perhaps we’ll try this as a project next year!?

March 31st is our last session of the season. We still need a theme for our summer homework so put on your thinking caps!
