Building on Color Theory – February 23, 2026

So this week we built on Josanna’s color theory presentation from last session. We used the “new” primary colors cyan magenta yellow for this, along with white and black.

But first, some show and share:

Lisa didn’t bring them in, but these are the two most recent glass pieces she’s done; Brenda played with a hot glue gun to create texture, instead of the paste that Doug taught us, in this Hydrangea piece; and Terri has been working on transforming a design off a pillow case onto canvas! Fun places to find inspiration! Plus she brought the Chica relief in for us to see.

Claudia painted her Monument relief, turned out great! She also put the skin tones created using a Zorn palette to work to improve on her watercolors of her grand daughter. And here is Terri showing some of Olivia’s recent charcoal works, all done on the cardboard left at the back of a watercolor pad. All great work!

Then we moved on to today’s project. Here is the reference photo:

And here are our works in progress or nearly completed! It is both rewarding and challenging using just the CMYK palette to create all our colors, tints, tones and shades:

A couple rebels in the group this week, worked on other projects. Jan however did use the Zorn palette for her skin tones, so it is still building on last week!

Next week – March 2nd, we will have an open studio, bring projects from previous classes to finish, type week. So bring whatever you want to work on!
