Today we started off our session with some detail about the upcoming show on January 17 & 18, 2026 here at the Tecalai Clubhouse. We have a good number of newcomers to the league so Terri wanted to ensure everyone understood how everything works.
We also had quite a few items for sharing:

Last week during our watercolour class with Lynn and Terri, Kimmer used masking fluid (frisket, although the brand name escapes me right now) to save the whites on her cactus piece. Then she went home and painted it! She also used some Brusho (a powdered water-based product that you sprinkle on and activate with water, Cindy did a demo on it a few years ago), that she wasn’t super happy with the results, but overall the piece came out great! She even has a frame in a dark indigo-ish type colour that will look fabulous with this!

Olivia loves to do, and does really great, clay roof tiles! They sell well at our art shows. Left photo is her w/c from last week and two tiles she painted overnight (apparently she didn’t / couldn’t sleep last night…) and the two on the right were ones she worked on today in open studio. Click the left photo to get the whole picture. Look forward to seeing these in the show!

Lynn brought in a sample of her “sand” technique that she talked about last week. After designing her piece, she cuts out her shapes in mactac / adhesive backed shelf liner material, applies it to save the big whites, and then spatters the piece with frisket / masking fluid, then spatters varying colours to make the sand, and then removes the frisket and her whites make the sand pop!

Last week Brenda did the background in watercolour class on canvasboard. Then she painted the Egrets in Acrylic on top. Turned out really nice and look forward to seeing this in the show too!

Here is Mike’s piece from w/c class last week! Can’t wait to see more! Love all the detail!

Dolphin that Lisa did over the summer for the Seguro y Sana women’s shelter project fundraising.

A few shots of open studio work. Kimmer’s fish is awesome! She was trying some metallic watercolors that she has and wasn’t excited by the effect, so she’s thinking of using some acrylic metallic to make it pop more.
Next is flower corner, Terri, Janet and Brenda were all working off the same floral sample, and the results are as varied as the lovely ladies painting them! Click the photo to see all three of their pieces.
Karen had this long framed panel that she freshly painted in preparation for today’s session. All the detail is done with a palette knife, and it’s looking great!
Kimmer has agreed to do a pastels class next week. More details on what we need to bring will follow to the membership by email. So watch your inbox!
