Dec 29, 2025 – More Watercolor Fun with Lynn and Terri

We had a good turnout today (14!), surprising, but this is the first time in recent years that dates have allowed for us to hold a meeting between Christmas and New Years.

Lynn joined Terri for the session and provided us with some good basics pointers and techniques that we all played with, including spatter, resist, wet-on-wet, dry brushing, and a bunch more! Things go quiet after we started painting, so that means we were all very into it!

Here are a few photos of results from the previous W/C class:

Olivia did the blonde girl in watercolours, and the other is a clay tile that she did. The horses are by Karen a new member this season, she had previously been unhappy with it and reworked the colours and achieved what she wanted! Great work!

Left is W/C on canvas. Kimmer had brought it in because she felt it was a bit flat and wanted advice. The Owl she completed the day before our meeting, good thing her Husband cooks! And the spoonbill (or flamingo) was from W/C last year that she decided to Zentangle on to add interest. Once again, Kimmer runs with a medium and bats homers!

Deb, another new member this year, did these two pieces to experiment with how canvas (left) affects being able to wash and allow it to flow and make the water reflections in comparison to paper (right). All of both of these pieces was done using different widths of credit cards, and only a bit of brush work to help wet paint flow. Both pieces are great!

Mike also brought in a few of his recent pieces, also in watercolour. Mike also just joined us this year, but it is quite obvious this isn’t his first rodeo! Those eyes! Great work Mike!

Jan also brought her pointsettia from the previous W/C class. She found that she liked working on the canvas in W/C and that it was more forgiving if you wished to remove something, in her case a stem! She refined her project a bit more, and was introduced to adding some pen work to the piece to accentuate the flower leaves. Hope to see this in the show!

Below are a few shots of Lynn going through her part of the class!

Here are a few samples of what Lynn talked about by using plastic wrap to add interest to water, landscape and create rocks, as well as using bubble wrap, table and rock salt to show how they work.

Everyone got right into it and the room got quiet! Karen working on a water scene; Kimmer using frisket (watercolour block) and Olivia went wild!

Brenda and Deb laying in background using washes in preparation for the subject matter. If you look closely you’ll see the picture beside that Brenda is hoping to put into this piece. Can’t wait to see what Deb does with her start!

We didn’t discuss it in the meeting but Terri also had a 30-day printout to enhance our W/C learning. It is by Audrey Shantz Art and we encourage those interested to try the 30-day challenge! Also at the end of the scan is a list of ideas that Lynn brought for us for different techniques and items that you can use to enhance, as discussed above!

Next week is open studio! Looking forward to seeing what everyone is working on!
