Seems that it has been a slow summer for members to send their recent works. Terri just sent me a couple for you to enjoy, also some not so good news.

First the ‘not-so-good news’:  Wayne and his wife have moved back to the U.S. to be closer to family.  He had a really great venue in California this summer to show and sell his remarkable art.  In Wayne’s short time as a member of La liga de Arte, he inspired us with his incredible colored pencil work.  I have actually emailed him requesting his advice on a piece I’m currently working on of my dog, Chica; which i’m doing with watercolor pencil on canvas board.  (gosh, i must LOVE a challenge!)  We will miss him.

On a more positive note Carollyne is living her best life in Europe, tough, but someone’s gotta do it!

And finally, Elaine got a new pacemaker! More on that below with another one of her great pieces.

Also, if any of you have ideas or have committed to doing a class for the group over the upcoming season let Terri know and she can send out any information for materials that you may need to bring from North of the border!

This is Cindy’s summer homework “a view from my window”. She painted this 8 x 10 of Mt Sopris in Carbondale, Colorado which is a few blocks from her home.  I know  Cindy favors watercolor, we assume that’s the medium for this piece.  She says she’s working on several 4 x 4 (or smaller) minis.  Never ceases to amaze  me how she can do those!I

I’m working on a painting with watercolor pencils of my schnauzer, Chica (work-in-progress photo attached).  I also tapped Wayne for some advice.  He asked if I am going to ‘ground’ chica’s picture. While contemplating that, I couldn’t really picture what to do, I then remembered a product I purchased some time back (photo attached) called DURA-LAR.  These 11 x 14 film sheets allows one to experiment with different possibilities for any part of a painting to see how it might work, and in many cases are reusable.

I wanted to share that with you should it might be of interest to anyone BEFORE crossing the border.

Also, my schnauzer’s eyes, LOOK like they’re black and that’s what I used.  then i realized they are just really dark dark brown.  What to do?  I added red pencil to the black and VOILA!  not only do they look better, it added dimension to her eyes.  Just a little lesson learned to share in case you aren’t already aware.

Elaine says her new super pacemaker slows her down a bit.   But if this does not make you smile and lift your spirits………………………

ENJOY!

Here is a wonderful watercolor recently completed by Lynn Cannon. The bird is beautiful and I am always impressed with Lynn’s excellent representation of water which has always been a challenge in my opinion. So, enjoy!

Well at Claudia’s house it’s definitely spring!  Check out these beautiful new paintings.

Both are painted on a prepared canvas.  The Iris’ is (I think she told Terri) her FIRST watercolor on canvas.  I cannot believe how fluid it looks; which was Terri’s struggle with that combination.  She makes it look easy.  Enjoy this viewing, because it has already been sold. 😞

The Sunflowers, also on canvas, began as an acrylic and morphed into an oil.

So, yes, it’s Spring in almost November.  Really, really good work, Claudia!

Elaine tells me she’s ‘stuck’ in Tucson and will be back in San Carlos around December 7.   Meanwhile, she obviously continues to produce more of her lovely signature artwork, here’s her latest.
