Dec 16, 2024 – Show and Share, Planning for Future Classes and January Show

We didn’t actually get around to doing any drawing practice as we’d planned today, but rather had a fairly extensive show and share and then a lot of discussion about what to do for future sessions and also planning for the January 18 & 19, 2025, show.

We did welcome two new members today: Ben and Brenda, and new member from our first meeting, Doug, was back. Plus some member faces that we’d been missing the first two weeks were here today, Olivia, Kimmer and Vicki all came for the first time this year.

Terri brought Kimmer’s Frida in again in hopes that Kimmer would be here today so that she could take it home, and she was and she also answered a few questions about medium, etc. We have all enjoyed Kimmer’s take, and Frida’s selfie!

Terri brought the two pieces (on each side of the Frida above) to demonstrate how watercolors work and look on Yupo paper (polypropeline paper).

Kathy has been learning to work with palette knife and is now exploring oils so she brought this piece in for us to see.

Doug, a member new to us this season, brought in a couple landscapes (the blue one is in Waterton National Park), and the other landscape is his representation of Monet’s favorite view. The still lifes were done off of photos that he took at a coffee shop and he said it took him a lot of practice to learn to draw ellipses well.

Susan has been working on an owl and just finished it before the meeting. I forgot to take photos of the Owl and Great Blue Heron, but she did send Terri photos after the meeting at my request. Her medium is pastels, amazing detail on the Blue Heron, especially the eye and beak! and love the way the background complements and highlights the bird. Well done Susan!

Susan’s owl turned out really great too!

Doug is also going to lead us next week in a palette knife demo and practice, so we’re looking forward to that! Email to the Members has gone out with the supplies needed, so come prepared, Monday, Dec 23 at 9:00 a.m.!

Brenda also brought in a few examples of alcohol ink, the two larger square pieces on the left are alcohol ink on Yupo paper. The larger rectangular one is one of Becky’s tiles that Terri bought a few years ago, and the hexagonal tiles in the upper right are samples that Brenda created.

Brenda and Claudia are going to do an alcohol ink workshop in January, so a lot to look forward to in the new year!
