December 9, 2024 – Drawing Exercises

Today we had a small group and went through a few drawing exercises – 15 minutes to draw a still life, we had a choice of three wine bottles or a trio of a squash, avocado and pomegranite. Then we did an Upside Down drawing exercise where you have a line drawing that you replicate while it is upside down – it forces you to work with placement and following the lines instead of letting your brain see what it actually is. And finally, Terri said that drawing a chair is difficult so we had a go at that as well. Not much for photos today, but here are a few of the things that we did. Elaine took it up a notch and tried it in ink, and had very good results:

Susan a new member brought a coloured pencil project that she’s working on, very much looking forward to seeing her progress on this:

Mary brought in a couple of her more recent projects using found objects, one is a Rosary made partially from beads that she got from a local fellow that squats down on San Francisco beach and the Cow skull using jewellery of her own and from her family. Both very cool and unusual pieces!

Next week we’re going to have open studio to work on our own current projects. Should be a great meeting!
