Today we had more of a business type meeting going over the Art Show needs and getting members to sign up to show and provide refreshments. Then we had some show and share of our recent projects, including some collage from December. Finally we had some open studio time to work on our projects.

Libby isn’t with us in San Carlos right now, but she sent us this pastel for us to enjoy!

Jan brought her collage from a couple weeks ago, she was looking for input as to whether to put scales on the mermaid tail, and a few ideas were discussed so she could try scales without adding them permanently until she found the solution that she liked. Great job so far!

These are Kimmer’s collages. The octopus is what she worked on in December and the cactus was from a workshop we did with Constance last season. Kimmer faced some struggles with the octopus when she sealed it with resin, and finally concluded that the oil painting underneath was the culprit, as it took four resin pours before she got it to cure. Glad she was able to save this fabulous piece!

Terri’s collage, the paper below it was supposed to show the original she was emulating but it shows up black. Anyways, cool representation of a beach scene and love the motion in the pic!

Elaine did a collage of her Scampi who they just lost a few days ago. We are sorry for your loss Elaine and Bruce, but this representation of her beloved pup is so great and so Elaine!

Lisa actually finished a collage! This one is destined for her granddaughter’s room at home!

Ray is the queen of detailed collage! There is no paint on these two pieces aside from a bit of straight line work Ray said. During the Covid lockdown she said she did so much collage in her bed that she was sleeping with tiny pieces of paper. With work like this she’s definitely honed her skills!

After we reviewed the collages from a couple weeks ago we had a few other pieces to see. Irene did this of the Petunias that sit on her porch. A few things were discussed about her painting, which the background btw was a paint pour she didn’t like, to help it be grounded and delineate the petunias a bit better. Irene said there was no light source so it was difficult to paint them with a light source direction. Great job Irene!

The background is from our watercolour session just before Christmas and then Mary added the poppies on top with pastels. Great work!

Lynn’s finished watercolour, too bad the beach is so chilly right now, makes us want to go! Lynn used bar soap as a resist to create the mottled sand. Great job and wonderful detail as only Lynn can do!

Cindy rejoined us this meeting for the season. Here is her interpretation of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, love the bees! Great work Cindy!
