First Meeting of the Season – Dec 4, 2023

We had our first meeting of the season and discussed our summer activities, some art related, what we would like to do this season and also had show and share of some of our summer homework projects of the Masters.

We’ll start off with our first Master by one of our founding members, Irene Rizner. We all felt that she did a better job on the mouth than Leonardo da Vinci did! Great job Irene!

Brenda did not only one, but three paintings. The ballet dancers is her representation of a Degas painting. The centre photo is her self-portrait of Eduard Manet’s self-portrait, and the lady in blue (needing her corset tightened) is her take on a Manet painting. Great job Brenda!

Elaine did her project using her love for collage and painting to create her representation of Cat in the flowers! Can’t remember the name of the Master she was emulating… But a very lovely rendition!

Kimmer chose to do her take on American Gothic, a 1930 painting by Grant Wood, that she entitled Sonoran Gothic (pickleball and fishing!). Many saw this at the Christmas Boutique held this past weekend as she was marketing her painting on T-shirts and Card packs. As we often see with Kimmer’s work, you can spend hours just roaming the painting for all the little details! Awesome!

Alex also brought in what she is currently working on a Sun and Moon in the round. Really great start Alex and we’ll look forward to seeing your finished work!

Lisa chose to do her representation of Charles Rennie Mackintosh a Scottish Architect and Artist. Her piece is on the left and a sample of the Mackintosh rose that she worked from is on the right.

Finally, Terri did a Georgia Okeefe painting but it’s still at the framers, so we’ll look forward to seeing that hopefully next week!?

Overall a great first meeting. Next week we’re going to do self-directed Collage!
